What is a Codec

Short for compressor/decompressor. An algorithm or scheme used when recording digital video or audio. A Codec is used, for example, when video is transmitted over the Internet; the video is compressed on the sending end and decompressed on the receiving end.

What Codec Should I Use

There are several Codes supplied with Windows, but you may want to use a Codec that compresses the file, an excellent freeware one can be found at called Motion-JPEG Code, as the time of writing Version 3.0 only works with chips supporting the MMX extensions, i.e. it may not work with older CPUs. Some will not work as they are "read" only Codecs, this is normal, just select one that does.

I only see 1 Codec, the list box is empty.

This appears to happen on PCs with with a Central European character set, e.g. Sweden and the Czech Republic, it seems to be a Microsoft bug. The Codecs are there but they are not displayed, use the arrow keys to step down the list box NOT the mouse.

I get an error "Cannot allocate memory because no size has been set"

This is due to the Codec that has been chosen. When JPGVideo runs you will see a "Video Compression dialog" box, these are the codecs, try selecting a different one, you may need to turn off "Remember Codec" in the configuration first. If none work try the one from http://www.mainconcept.com

Does it work on XP

Yes it does, if you can not play the video file try using another codec

It plays on my PC but not on any other

The PC on which the video is to be played must have the same Codec installed. as was used to create the video.

When I play the video I only see one frame

This is probably because your JPG files are have large dimensions e.g. 1024 x 640, to solve this drop the frame rate or use a higher compression setting, or buy a faster PC!

What does File 250 (151) of 720 mean

Processing file number 250 dropped 151, because they were identical, there are a total of 720 files to process

How do I add a sound track

Use a video editor, we would suggest virtualdub, it is freeware from www.virtualdub.org

Compressor txts:draw missing

This error occurs on some systems, caused by JPGVideo writing the name of the JPG file to the AVI file for each frame. Version 1.03 now has the option to turn this off

Nothing, it is free, the user may use or distribute it freely but it MUST not be sold for profit.

Will it overwrite my PC settings

No. All the software is installed, usually, in "c:\program files\JPGVideo". JPGVideo does not use the registry, only data required by the installation program, to uninstall the software is written to the registry.

How do I install/remove it

As you would install/uninstall any Windows program.
